They request information from CEOs on potential pandemic program fraud.
Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon, who serves as chair of the Senate Finance Committee, and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada opened an inquiry into Billy Long, a former representative and the president-elect’s nominee for IRS commissioner. The two officials sent letters to the tax advisory firms that “reportedly paid Long on a contingency basis for ERTC refunds received by clients he referred.”
The employee retention tax credit (ERTC) was provided for businesses struggling to pay their employees during and after the pandemic, which became a vehicle for receiving fraudulent claims.
The legislators’ letter stated, “During a podcast interview last year, Long stated that there were many situations where a CPA [certified public accountant] would not sign off on a client’s ERTC claims but allegedly told them to ‘Go back to Billy. Let Billy do it for you.’”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Senators Wyden and Cortez Masto as they seek to ensure the integrity of the IRS nominee.
- For wisdom for the president-elect as he chooses individuals for his Cabinet and other federal posts.
